‘Pippa has provided all occupational health provisions for Godolphin Pre-Training for the six and a half years that I have been Manager. She is meticulous in her assessment of new starters and injured people and her reports are detailed and easy to interpret. Employees find Pippa very easy to talk to and she has proven instrumental in her emotional support of injured employees.
Pippa has designed and delivered Health and Safety training to all employees. She is ingenious in preparing relevant training which is interactive and therefore useful. She has delivered training in injury prevention through proper core strength which was a fantastic success.
Pippa has a deep understanding of the fitness requirements of riders and yard people which is essential when advising on the return to work of injured people. Further, she has always made a huge effort to understand the business needs so that she is well placed to advise on return to work plans. Her expertise in this field is unrivalled.
Pippa is the consummate professional and has often dealt with very sensitive matters incredibly effectively, she is 100% trustworthy and respects employees’ confidentiality. I would have no hesitation in recommending Pippa in any occupational health role, and would actively encourage any horse racing business to draw on her expertise.’
Pre-Training Manager, Godolphin
Pippa Stanford has provided our company with excellent Occupational Health support and manual handling training for nearly three years. She has carried out annual and pre-employment medical screening for our engineers and HGV drivers, identifying health issues that may impact upon ability of employees to work safely or that may be in any way work-related. Her findings are supported by professional written assessments for management and practical advice to individual employees to enable them to address any health issues in a timely way.
However, the most significant contribution that Pippa has made to our company has been her work with the drivers of our HGV fleet. It is well recognised that the work demands of long distance drivers – irregular hours, lack of exercise, traffic congestion and limited diet options – make it problematic to for individuals to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Recognising this we gave Pippa the challenging brief not only to educate them about the special health issues they face, but also to create a long-term well-being program encouraging them as individuals to take their future health into their own hands. This involves providing practical advice on improvement of diet, exercise and stress management within their normal working environment.
Drivers by the nature of their work are rarely available for group briefings, but despite this the program Pippa has created for us has been an outstanding success. Pippa has proved an excellent and inspirational communicator and her honesty, enthusiasm and sheer hard work on the project has gained the respect, trust and co-operation of both drivers and management.
This in turn has given us as the employer the comfort of knowing that we have done as much as we can to assist our drivers overcome the negative aspects of their occupation. I would have no hesitation in recommending Pippa as a thoroughly dependable and professional service provider in this area.

‘I’m glad all has gone well but to be honest I didn’t expect anything else as the services Health 1st have provided to date have been well received in Scotland. It would appear you have packed in quite a considerable amount more than anticipated so a HUGE thank you to you.’

‘Pippa has demonstrated without question on a repeated basis that she is a highly competent, business minded occupational health practitioner who does not put her personal or business gains before professional ethics and is able to balance the needs of both the employer and employee very effectively. She has a very sound understanding of the very complex nature of occupational health ethics and can be relied upon to act in an appropriate manner even when there is immense pressure from her clients not to do so.
Pippa’s communication skills are excellent and her ability to up-skill and develop clients’ managers and her own staff is second to none. She is a credit to both the nursing and the occupational health professions. It is a great honour to be her mentor and coach at this point in her career and I can without any hesitation recommend her as an outstanding, respected and valued member of the occupational health community who is responsive to business needs and will always strive to provide that which is excellent in occupational health.’

‘Pippa was able to advise both the College and each individual on the best course of action for their particular situation and her in-depth knowledge of the services provided by the College and its business needs and culture meant that her advice was invaluable. She was able to communicate at all levels, provided verbal feedback promptly and clearly, as well as well-written reports, with clear advice e.g. in relation to phased returns to work, recommended adjustments etc. ….always acted sensitively in difficult cases e.g. stress related. Her advice was positive and constructive. Pippa’s qualities also include flexibility, reliability and enthusiasm and commitment to whatever she was doing. Her work for the College made a positive impact on contributing to the reduction of sickness absence amongst staff and we were sorry to lose her.’

‘I found Mrs Stanford to be a great help, assessing my condition and suggesting possible options available to me. She recommended I see a spinal specialist and arranged an appointment for me very promptly…I am now back at work carrying out my usual duties after a phased return to work programme which was advised by Mrs Stanford. I would highly recommend her as her professional and attentive manner meant that my condition was dealt with by the correct medical team promptly. I am very grateful to her as without her support I might not be back at work now.’
